About Gail
Ambassador Gail Schoettler has had a varied and successful career in politics, diplomacy and business. Currently, she serves on the boards of Masergy Communications, AspenBio Pharma, Inc., and Delta Dental of Colorado. She is the non-executive chair of AspenBio Pharma and serves on the audit committees of all three companies. She has been a United States Ambassador, Colorado's Lt. Governor and State Treasurer, an entrepreneur, a professional speaker, and a newspaper columnist. She has met with heads of state and traveled to over 90 countries, frequently talking to political and business leaders.

President Clinton appointed Dr. Schoettler United States Ambassador to the 2000 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) held in Istanbul. She led a delegation of 162 U.S. telecommunications experts in a successful treaty negotiation with 189 countries on the allocation of radio spectrum for commercial and government uses. Her current political involvements include helping women across the country win high public office and helping young women and men get into politics and positions of community leadership.

Dr. Schoettler served as Colorado's Lt. Governor from 1995 to 1999. In 1997, she co-chaired the successful G-8 Summit of world leaders held in Denver, Colorado. She negotiated solutions to some of Colorado's toughest environmental problems and led a highly successful educational reform. From 1987 to 1995, Dr. Schoettler served two terms as Colorado State Treasurer and as a trustee of the Public Employees Retirement Association, the state's then-$24 billion pension fund. She was elected to two terms on the Douglas County Board of Education, serving four years as president, and was a trustee of the University of Northern Colorado. In addition to the many corporate boards on which she has served, she has also been on many non-profit boards, currently sitting on the board of The Colorado Trust.

In 2007, Dr. Schoettler and her husband, Dr. Donald Stevens, founded eGlobalEducation (www.eglobaleducation.com), a company focused on providing custom-designed educational travel for executives, corporate management teams, corporate directors, and people who love adventurous, informed travel.

They introduce their clients to business and political leaders in countries around the world as well as to unique cultures and unusual destinations. Since 2007, they have led groups to China, Mongolia, Southeast Asia, Japan, Turkey, East Africa, North Africa, and South America.

Dr. Schoettler received her BA degree with honors in economics from Stanford University and her MA and PhD degrees in African History from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She has founded two banks and continues to help run the California cattle ranch and vineyards where she was raised and to manage several real estate partnerships.

Among her many awards is the French Legion of Honor, France's highest civilian award, presented to her by French President Jacques Chirac. Ambassador Schoettler is married to Dr. Donald Stevens. Together they have five children and live in Parker, Colorado. An avid hiker, she recently climbed 19,341 foot Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and conquered her great fear of heights to climb all 56 of Colorado's 14,000 foot high mountains.
